On Saturday, August 17, the teachers of Govt Primary School Hemmady in Hemmadi village, Karnataka noticed a green bag lying on the balcony. According to Local 18 Karnataka, the teachers didn’t take it seriously and the bag kept lying there on Monday, August 19 as well. Students searched the contents of the bag and were surprised to find money worth Rs 45,000 in it.
The school’s headmaster immediately informed the Sri Lakshmi Narayana Swamy Temple’s management. The management then informed the Kundapura police officials PSI (Police Sub-Inspector) Pushpa and his team. They arrived on the spot, seized the money and then returned it to the Lakshmi Narayana Swamy Temple under cour authority.
According to the Local 18 Karnataka report, a thief had stolen this money from the Sri Lakshmi Narayana Swamy Temple’s Hundi. Hundi is the temple priest’s office. The thief removed the screw from the door lock and then seized the money. This money had been collected from the servants for the monthly Satyanarayan puja. The theft incident was revealed when the temple’s door was opened on Saturday, August 17.
The footage of the thief was caught on the CCTV camera installed in the temple and the Kundapura police are investigating it. According to Mangalore Today, the thief, who was captured on CCTV footage, was seen wearing slippers, bowing in prayer, and then proceeding with the theft. The temple had undergone a renovation costing approximately Rs 7 crores just a few months ago. Now, people want to know why this person stole the money from the temple and placed it on the school’s balcony. Besides the temple, the burglar had stolen the money from the nearby 3 houses.
Another question that the authorities are looking forward to answering is that the bag comprised only Rs 3, 035. However, the bag earlier had Rs 45,000. As per reports, the thief might have kept the remaining amount elsewhere, possibly due to remorse after the theft. The thief’s identity and his motive to steal the money have not been disclosed.
