BHUBANESWAR: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik underscored improvement in the quality of power supply by reducing loss, both technical and commercial.“Distribution utilities have to enhance the reliability of their network and curtail aggregate technical and commercial (AT&C) losses. These can be achieved through process improvement and adoption of appropriate advanced technologies,” he said at a seminar here on Monday.Inaugurating the seminar ‘Technology: Enabling the transformation of the power distribution’ on the 16th foundation day of Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC) here, Naveen said the distribution companies have to improve their performance in matters of reduction of losses, improvement in quality of power supply and address the genuine grievances of the consumers on priority basis. The Government had already set up 18 energy police stations and 16 more to be established soon. Efforts are being made to further streamline the functioning of these police stations to ensure effective prevention and prosecution of electricity offences, he said.  Minister of State for Energy Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak admitted that the  AT&C loss of power in Orissa which hovers around 40 per cent is unsustainable and responsible for crippling financial health of the distcoms. While the consumers demand quality power, they should be ready to pay the cost of the service provided to them. He attributed the poor quality of service to non-payment of energy bill by a large number of consumers.OERC chairman BK Das highlighted the operational deficiencies and suggested measures to tackle the problems. Chairman of Appellate Tribunal for Electricity Justice MK Vinayagam and Energy Secretary G Mathivathanan spoke.
