One must look at connection with the athman (soul); meditation is a means to achieve the same.”  He added that the mind records the punya (arising out of good deeds) and paap (sin) due to our actions, adding that paap is not altogether avoidable due to Karma.Explaining that actions in concordance with the varying human nature directly affect the immediate environment, Vaid said: “The human mind needs to be controlled; thus, we can refine ourselves by modifying our thoughts and actions.”This, he sought to aver, is a gateway to Mukti or Moksha, which is liberation from the cycle of birth and death.Vaid also explained that mere visits to religious places without repentance for one’s actions would be of no consequence. The Parya is an eight-day trial on how to lead lives, he added. In his address, he sought to relate this with the perseverance of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, while rounding it off by urging the gathering to practise what they preach.
