BANGALORE: Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, who has been dubbed as former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s shadow, said he would continue to consult his predecessor and meet him once a week seeking direction on all issues.“I will never betray my leader. He has made me the CM. But it doesn’t mean that I listen to whatever he says,” Gowda, who will complete one month in office on Saturday, said in an exclusive interview to Express.“I don’t need anyone’s certificate.My conscience is my biggest certificate.At the end of the day, when I go to bed, if my conscience says: ‘Sadananda you have done good work’ it’s enough,” he said.Asserting that he needed another month to settle down, Gowda said he was aware of the dicey political situation and internal squabbles in the party.“It’s the toughest job of my life,” he said, adding he was confident of taking all factions together.As a first step, he has given freedom to his ministers.“For the first time, there are open discussions in the Cabinet,” he said, adding, “Freedom does not mean they can work according to their whims and fancies.If need be, I will step in.” On his decision to ask his kith and kin to stay away from administrative matters, Gowda said: “The job of being the CM is entrusted to me and not my wife and son.In the past, those who kept their family members away from administrative matters, have got good results.”
