MANGALORE: “I have seen the accused Mohan Kumar with my sister Sunanda in a Congress protest rally organised at Nehru Maidan on January 19, 2008, and I have recognised him at the identification parade conducted at Mangalore sub jail too, on November 4, 2009,” testified witness Harini at the Fast Track court on Saturday. Deposing before the court hearing into the Cyanide Mohan case, Harini said, “When Sunanda attended the protest rally at Nehru Maidan, Mohan Kumar succeeded in collecting her phone number and used to call her on regular basis,” she testified. She also testified that she had identified the accused among the eight persons paraded at identification parade held at Mangalore sub-jail. During the cross examination, the accused Mohan Kumar countered that the witness had never seen him with Sunanda before and she could identify him as she had seen him in the newspapers and visual media. But the witness rejected his point and claimed that she identified the accused as she had seen him at Nehru Maidan only. Rathnavathi, mother of the deceased Sunanda, testified that her daughter had attended a Congress protest rally at Nehru Maidan four years ago along with her sister’s daughter Harini. Harini disclosed that a person by name Shashidhar, who met her at the rally had enquired her caste, phone number and expressed interest on marrying her. Later, that person used to talk with her daughter, she testified.
