New York: 'Spider Man' star Andrew Garfield says he almost suffocated on the set of the forthcoming superhero movie 'The Amazing Spider-Man'. The 28-year-old actor said he sparked an emergency when he dived into a pool of water with the famous mask over his face, reported New York Daily post.

"I had to get wet, and I just kind of dove in and didn't realise that water on the mask made it impossible to breathe. So I was kind of, like, suffocating. I couldn't get any oxygen! I water-boarded myself," he said. The film will be hitting theatres on July 3.

Garfield says his role is like any other acting job and said he will never be entirely happy with his career achievements.

"To achieve what you set out to achieve and realise it's not what you want, it's disappointing. This role had been something I'd always, always wanted to do. Then you realise it's like any other acting job," contactmusic.com quoted Garfield as saying.

He added that he will probably never be entirely happy as far as his career is concerned.

"Some days it's great, others you feel lost. And I had always felt that if I got certain roles then I would be set for life, emotionally, professionally. It would be Utopia. But you never get to Utopia. The dream has become reality," he said.

The actor, who was bullied at primary school, said that playing 17-year-old high school geek Peter Parker was not actually much of a stretch.

"It's a horrible time of your life. But I still feel like I'm in that chapter. I am unsure, insecure, awkward in my body."

What's your reaction?
