Hyderabad: On Tuesday, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh inaugurated the 93rd Indian Science Congress in Hyderabad. On the same day, Bangalore Police arrested an ISI agent in the city.

The terrorist had two bombs on his person, one of them a high-tech, cell phone-controlled bomb.

PM's presence in the city and the arrest could be just a co-incidence, but questions are being asked.

On January 1, Bangalore attack suspect, identified as Lashkar-e-Toiba operative Abdul Rehman, was arrested in Nalgonda, 105 km from Hyderabad.

Rehman's arrest is an indication that jihadi outfits like Lashkar and Jaish-e-Mohammad as well as ISI operatives have been active in south India for few weeks now.

Has Hyderabad become the hotbed of terrorism? The police, though, think otherwise.

Deputy General of Police Hyderabad, Swaranjit Sen says, "Terrorist attacks happen in other cities as well. It is not as if Hyderabad is the hub of terror. The police are working hard to get to the bottom of this."

Despite what the police say, the trail of terror was evident when the Hyderabad Police Task Force headquarters was bombed on October 11, 2005.

In December 2005, the city police arrested two people - Zahed and Kaleem - in connection with the attack.

Police found out that the Hitech City — a center for all major BPO units of the US and the UK — in Hyderabad was a prime target.

Police say the motive behind the targeting such units is to paralyse the activities of Western nations

But whatever the police may say, Andhra Pradesh government is now jittery, especially as the PM is to inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in Hyderabad on Friday.

The government has asked for deployment of 12 companies of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).

A three-day Congress Plenary Session is also about to begin in Hyderabad, which will be inaugurated by the PM and will be attended by many VIPs including Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Union and state ministers of the Congress party.
