Howrah-Mumbai Train Accident: Malda Survivor, Who Injured His Leg, Says 'Can't Walk'
Badal Das, a retired government employee from Malda, was sleeping on the lower birth when he suddenly heard a loud noise followed by a jolt.

In a tragic railway accident, two people were killed and 20 others were reportedly injured after at least 18 coaches of a train for Mumbai derailed in Jharkhand on July 30. Howrah-Mumbai Mail, 12810, went off the tracks at around 3:45 am near Barabambo, under the Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway. As per the officials, out of the 18 coaches that derailed near Jharkhand, 16 were passenger coaches, one power car and one pantry car. Even though the casualties were not the same as in the past railway accidents in India, the trauma which arrives for the survivors forever gets itched in their minds. A couple from Malda town in West Bengal who were onboard the Mumbai-Howrah rail shares their horrific experience when the train derailed. The couple in conversation are named Badal Das and Savita Das. They are the resident of Krishna Pally in the English Bazar town of Malda.

Badal Das, a retired government employee from Malda, was sleeping on the lower birth when he suddenly heard a loud noise followed by a jolt. He was going to Tata Hospital in Mumbai for his wife’s treatment. After the crash, the middle seat collapsed on the feet of Badal. He was stuck inside the derailed coach song with his wife, who also suffered injuries on her head. The rescuers later rescued the couple from the derailed coach. They were taken to the local hospital for treatment. Both were seriously injured in the accident.

“My leg is injured and I cannot walk. The wife sustained an injury on the head. Both of us are admitted to a local railway hospital. The girl is alone at home in Malda. The administration people went home,” said Badal Das over the phone while talking to Local18.

According to the administration sources, there are four more people from Malda rescued from the train accident in Jharkhand. Three survivors were from the Lakshighat area of the English Bazar of Malda. They were travelling to Mumbai for work. They are named Jamset Ali, Sourav Ali and Qadir Sheikh. Another is Raju Sheikh of Chanchal town. All are under treatment at a local hospital. The district administration of Malda is ensuring to provide all kinds of facilities and help to the survivors of the Mumbai-Howrah Rail accident.
