BIDAR: Bakchowdi, a village five kilometres away from the district, has witnessed honour killings of lovers of the same family.The nature of the incident, which is rare in the Hyderabad-Karnataka region, has sent shock waves across the region.Bidar Superintendent of Police Satishkmar told Express that Vinod and Renuka, who were cousins, were killed by Omkar, Renuka’s brother, due to fear of the society.According to the SP, Vinod and Renuka, who were in love for a year, were about to marry.Renuka’s family members came to know of the relationship two weeks back and they tried to convince her about the implications.Meanwhile, Omkar took Renuka to his house in Bidar, where he was doing some business.She was brought to the village on the occasion of Ganesha festival.There, Renuka contacted Vinod, which irritated Omkar.According to police, Omkar and his brother managed to take Vinod to nearby Sikendrapur forests on September 4 and set him ablaze by pouring petrol on him.The next day, they killed Renuka in the same way.As Vinod did not return to the house for long, his parents lodged a complaint with the Bidar (Rural) police.Police found that the two were killed to ‘save’ the family’s honour.They recovered the bodies and handed them over to their respective families after postmortem on Thursday evening.CPI Basavaraj Teli told Express that initially Renuka’s family members refused to take the body saying that she had dishonoured the family.After a lot of persuasion by others, they took the body.The police said the accused would be arrested in a day or two.A pall of gloom hung on Bakchowdi when Express visited the village on Thursday morning before the arrival of the bodies there.The family members of both Vinod and Renuka refused to talk to the media.However, the villagers said they did not know about the relationship between Vinod and Renuka.“They were moving around together many times, and as they were brother and sister in relation, we did not suspect them,” they said
