KANCHI / CHENNAI: Kandavel, a vegetable vendor in Kancheepuram was killed by a group of people.The victim himself was involved in a murder in 2008. Kandavel was attacked on Yathothakari Perumal Koil Street at 6 am. Four men are believed to be involved and two of them are said to be the victim’s relatives. “Both the deceased and his killers belong to the same family,” said DSP K Rajendhran adding that the killers have been more or less identified, and they are on the run, he said.The DSP said that Kandavel was involved in the murder of Vikhi alias Vignesh, a local rowdy in 2008. The police said they have evidence that Vikhi’s father might have planned today’s murder with the help of four persons including two of his sons. The DSP said it was not clear whether Vikhi’s father was at the scene of the murder.After post-mortem, the body of Kandavel was handed to his family members.Chain-snatchingBike riders snatched the gold chain of a 53-year-old woman at Villivakkam in Chennai on Friday.Sources said A Kokila, a resident of Bhajanai Koil II Street, worked as an ‘ayah’ in the same area. The robbers approached her when she was returning home. In another incident, Balachandran, a civil engineer, was walking along Sterling Road in Numgambakkam, when two men on a bike snatched his gold bracelet and fled. In T Nagar, a youth Jayabalaji (20), was caught while trying to snatch a chain from a woman, as she was entering a ladies hostel on Ramanujam Street.Man held for murderSakthi, a 37-year-old man was arrested for allegedly murdering his wife at Anna Nagar in Chennai on Friday. Malar (37), a domestic maid, was found unconscious at her house on 14th Street in Anna Nagar about two days ago, sources said. When Malar’s employer came to see her, Sakthi claimed that she had consumed rat poison. The police sent her body for post-mortem, which proved his claims to be false. It came to light that he had murdered her after a domestic dispute.
