KOZHIKODE: A meeting of the Hindu Aikya Vedi Kozhikode district committee has demanded that the state government should take necessary measures to encourage Hindu religious studies. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, who is providing financial assistance to madrasas, should give due consideration to members of the Hindu community following the secular principles proclaimed by the Constitution. The government should provide financial aid to Hindu religious institutions too, the leaders demanded on Saturday. Every year, the government is getting crores of rupees as revenue from temples. The government should understand that the repeated neglect towards the Hindu community will cause ire among its members, the meeting observed. They also demanded that the government should implement welfare fund and other benefits to temple priests and other staff. Hindu Aikyavedi district working president K V Valsakumar, State secretary K V Haridas and others attended the meeting.
