Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat will embark on a seven-day padyatra in holy city Haridwar on Wednesday to kickstart Congress' campaign for upcoming Lok Sabha polls in the hill state.

Public meetings will be organised as part of the campaign to inform people about achievements of the Congress-led governments in the state and at the Centre, state Congress spokesman Dhirendra Pratap said.

Accompanied by state Congress president Yashpal Arya, the Chief Minister will launch the march from Saptrishi Chungi in Haridwar, he said.

The seven-day yatra has been planned only for Haridwar, considered a gateway to the hills of Uttarakhand, Pratap said.

The holy city is also considered a symbol of communal harmony with many centres of faith located in the district including Ganga, Mansa Devi and Chandi Devi temples and Piran Kaliyar Sharief, he said.

The yatra will cover a distance of more than 100 kms before concluding on March 21 with a gap of three days for the festival of Holi, Pratap said.
