BANGALORE: The state government has decided to seek a change in the itinerary of senior BJP leader L K Advani’s Rath Yatra which would begin from October 11 from Saran district in Bihar. As per the tentative plan, the yatra would enter Karnataka on October 27 and travel through the coastal districts. Since the Diwali festival will also occur at around the same time, the state unit has decided to request the high command to finish the yatra in the state before October 25. “Diwali being a big festival, everybody will be busy in celebrations. Even our workers will be busy. So we are requesting for a change in the itinerary of the yatra,” said a BJP office-bearer.The issue came up for discussion in the meeting of divisional in-charges (prabaris) held here on Tuesday.State BJP president K S Eshwarappa who will be attending the party’s two-day national executive meeting to be held in Delhi from September 30 would also discuss about the timing with the high command.Meanwhile, the party is also mulling to organise a public rally in Bangalore at the same time and invite Advani to be the main speaker. Since the yatra passes through the coastal line of Karnataka, we have decided to have a rally in Bangalore with a hope to evoke greater response, a source in the BJP said.Dissent to BSY’s Yatra? The state unit seems to be unhappy with former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa’s decision to embark on his own yatra and the topic was discussed in Tuesday’s meeting at length.According to sources, all leaders who attended the meeting were unanimous in their opinion that Yeddyurappa’s yatra prior to the one by Advani will send a wrong signal to the people, particularly to party workers and decided to ask Yeddyurappa to postpone his plans till Advani’s yatra was over. However, a final call on this will be taken at the party’s core committee meeting which will be held within a day or two. State BJP president K S Eshwarappa, BJP national general secretary H N Ananthkumar and others were present at the meeting.
