THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Chief Minister Oommen Chandy on Wednesday admitted that the Government and Thiruvananthapuram Corporation were facing a loss of credibility over the Vilappilsala waste treatment plant issue. Speaking at his weekly post-cabinet briefing here, he said everybody concerned were aware of the complexities involved in the issue. “There is no point in blaming the Vilappilsala panchayat alone. We have not kept the word with them so far. We have a credibility loss on this issue,” the Chief Minister said. He pointed out that everybody knew that in spite of the united efforts by all parties  concerned, the popular protest from Vilappil panchayat made it impossible to resume the waste dumping at Vilappilsala.  Chandy called for the cooperation of all involved to solve the issue amicably. The Corporation also should cooperate to settle the issue, he said. ‘’On Thursday, the Sanitation Day will be observed statewide. Waste management is a serious issue in the State and the Government has adopted a three-point programme to deal with the situation. Firstly, efforts should be made to separate bio-wastes and plastic wastes. For the decentralisation of waste management, 75 per cent of the cost would be borne by the Government. Major projects for centralised waste treatment would be launched in Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode,’’ Chandy said.
