BJP MLA from Tehri's Ghansali area on Tuesday met Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi and demanded that the region be declared a separate district. BJP MLA Bhimlal Arya reached the Raj Bhavan, along with his supporters, and handed over a 21-page letter to the Governor, demanding that the problems faced by the people of the region be addressed.
In his letter, Arya demanded that the Ghansali region affected by Tehri bandh pariyojna be made a separate district, and accorded the status of a backward region providing walking facility to and from Tehri Dam.
He also demanded that a high-level inquiry be conducted on whether the agreements made with local residents at the time of implementation of hydro-power projects in Dehradun was properly implemented or not.
The Governor assured Arya to take up the matter with Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna. On Monday, Arya had staged a dharna in the Assembly in support of his demands.
