BANGALORE: Shortage of drinking water, heaps of garbage and unscientific underground drainage (UGD) system were a few complaints that welcomed Mayor Sharadamma and BBMP Commissioner M K Shankarlinge Gowda during their inspection in Dasarahalli on Thursday.Dasarahalli MLA S Muniraju said, “There is no proper UGD in my constituency, as all the wards were added to BBMP from City Municipal Corporation. Residents depend on groundwater to meet their daily needs. Also, out of 900 borewells, 400 have gone dry.”Muniraju requested T Venkatraju, engineer-in-chief, BWSSB, to supply water to all households by installing bulk meters.Locals, however, alleged that representatives were interested in garnering votes in elections, by supplying water. “In order to look into the matter of unscientific UGD, a board committee comprising BWSSB maintenance engineer, a project engineer, a BBMP engineer and a consultant will be constituted who will inspect the areas and recommend for replacement of UGD, if it is unscientific. The board will be constituted next week,” Muniraju said. BBMP Commissioner Gowda, said, “Storm water drains at Chokkasandra will be widened and re-constructed at a cost of Rs 6.5crore.”
