GANGAVATHI: The small town of Gangavathi was bathed in a festive atmosphere as it awaited the opening of the biggest event of the year. The 78th Akhil Bharat Kannada Sahitya Sammelan (ABKSS) is an eagerly-awaited literary fest for lovers of Kannada literature. From December 9-11, life in the town will revolve round the Sri Channabasava Taluk Stadium, the venue of the event.People from all walks of life are playing a part in the successful conduct of the event.While most of the town’s rice mills and spinning mills have decided to stop operations to enable their employees to attend the sammelan, educational institutions have voluntarily offered their buildings for the event.The town has been gaily decorated for the mega event and school staff and children have been drafted for the sammelan duties.Impressed, Kannada Sahitya Parishat state president K Nallur Prasad said, “This is the fourth Kannada meet in my period. I have not seen such a response anywhere.”
