Four persons were killed on Wednesday evening as fresh violence erupted in Budhana area of Muzaffarnagar district, hit by riots last month in which over 60 people were killed.
The three victims, identified as Afroz (20) Meherban (21) and Ajmal (22) were shot dead by unidentified assailants while the they were working in the field. Another person, who was critically injured in the firing in Muhammadpurraisingh village, succumbed to injuries.
The incident appeared to be the fallout of the communal tension in the region.
Muhammadpurraisingh village was one of villages affected by the riots that took place last month. Efforts are on to nab the accused. Security has been tightened and senior officials are on the spot, DM Kaushal Raj said. Sources claimed that the victims were among those staying in relief camps after the riots.
