New Delhi: The security agencies have achieved an important breakthrough in the Srinagar grenade attack case by arresting four persons and identifying Lashkar-e-Toiba mastermind Mudassir being behind the gruesome attacks that killed nine persons and injured 32 people.
Mohd Afzal, who was earlier caught by people while throwing a grenade and handed over to the police, has revealed that one Mudassir alias Raju, terrorist of LeT outfit, was organising these attacks.
He was doing it under the overall supervision of Bilal, also known as Sallah-ud-din, LeT Commander, Home Ministry sources said.
They said that important breakthrough has been achieved in this regard.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested four more terrorists hailing from North Kashmir on the basis of information provided by Mohd. Afzal during his interrogation.
The security agencies have also traced the telephone booth from where a call was made yesterday by one Abu Al-Hadeed to a local news agency in Srinagar, claiming that J&K al-Qaeda headed by Chief Commander Abu Abdur Rehman Ansari, had been launched in the state.
The call has been traced to a STD booth located in Jamalhatta in Srinagar.
The operator of the STD booth, from where Al Hadeed had made a call congratulating the outfits responsible for the Mumbai and Srinagar blasts, has been questioned and he has given a brief description of the caller as being Kashmiri speaking.
Further investigations are being made in this regard.
In the anti-insurgency operation in the state till now, 301 terrorists have been killed so far during the year 2006, which includes 30 Commanders. Some of the important Commanders killed recently included Munawar Shah, a dreaded Hizbul Muzahideen area commander who was active since 11 years and reportedly involved in grenade blasts at Pahalgam Bus Stand on April 27, this year.
Mushtaq Ahmad Wani also known as Khalid, Divisional Commander of HM who was active for the last 15 years and involved in many attacks, has also been killed.
Abu Qasim R/o Pakistan (Al-Badr Commander) was killed in an encounter at Taibal Harwan, Srinagar. He was involved in the grenade attack on the tourist bus at Zakoora, Srinagar on May 25, 2006.
Among the killed also included Riyaz Ahmad Bhat also known as Aftab (District Commander HM outfit), who was one among of the three terrorists responsible for the grenade attack on the National Conference rally at Kulgam on July 8, this year.
