Follow HC norms for Vinayagar Chathurthi

City Police Commissioner JK Tripathy on Wednesday insisted that everyone celebrating Vinayagar Chathurthi should comply with the orders of the Madras High Court and the rules stipulated by the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board that mandated that the idols installed should be made only out of raw clay and non-toxic materials.

He said that the height of the idols should not exceed 10 feet. Prior permission should be sought to install idols at public places during the fest and they should be put up only in the approved places. He also requested organisers to minimise the number of idols so as to ensure adequate protection.

He said permission would be denied to install the idols at places where it would obstruct traffic or where people gather in large numbers or where there was opposition from the local public, especially the areas dominated by people from other communities or near places of worship that belongs to other communities. He said that the organisers should issue photo ID cards among themselves and protect the idols round the clock. “Police will assist them,” he said.
