New Delhi: The fate of Pakistan's civilian government remains unclear even after Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani made an impassioned plea for democracy at the National Assembly.

All eyes are now on the Supreme Court that is expected to hear two crucial petitions on Monday, which could well determine the outcome of the current political crisis.

It's the time for Pakistan to make a choice between democracy and dictatorship.

The PPP seems to have stave off the current crisis but only till Monday when the National Assembly discusses it all in detail.

Also on Monday, the Supreme Court is expected to hear the case relating to NRO and the memo. Another highlight next week will be the return of Mansoor Ijaz for his testimony on the Memo case.

However, for now, the government says everything is fine even as an agency report revealed that Gilani had called the UK High Commission for help in case there was a coup.

"We have always obeyed SC orders. You must have felt the tension is going down. Such things do happen in democracy. We are going through a phase of transition from dictatorship to democracy," said Interior Minister Rehman Malik.

After a tense week, Gilani's government seems to have survived to fight another day. But the challenges are mounting, not just from the army and Supreme Court but also from his political rival who are demanding fresh elections at the earliest.
