HYDERABAD: The nine people who have lost their vision on one eye after undergoing cataract surgery in Amma Hospital on Ongole was due to improper measures taken in using surgical instruments, fresh eye fluids and negligence of the hospital staff, which caused development of pseudomonas bacteria in the victims’ eyes, damaging the entire mechanism of vision, say the doctors of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Hyderabad.Dr Upendra Karne, superintendent of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, after getting the victims’ report on Thursday, said  the nine people developed endophthalmitis, an inflammation of the internal coats of their eyes. The patients lost vision on one eye completely and eye transplantation is not possible.“The patients are being administered with intravitreal injection, eye drops and medicine to prevent the infection spreading to their second eye,” he said, adding that the report would be sent to the government and victims’ families and the Amma Hospital.The nine victims aged between 50 and 70 were brought to Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Hyderabad on May 25 after they lost their vision  after undergoing cataract surgery in Amma Hospital in Ongole.
