KOLLAM: The Kollam Chief Judicial Court has given the go ahead to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to continue the examination of weapons seized from the ship ‘Enrica Lexie’ in the absence of the representatives from the Italian Government. The court on Monday noted that the Italians chose to opt out from the forensic examination and hence there was no objection in continuing the examination. The FSL director had sought the opinion of the court as the two Italian Government representatives, who were allowed by the court to be present during the ballistic examination of the weapons, went back home on Friday. The examination of weapons at the FSL is likely to continue for another three to four days.Sources said that the two experts left after unsealing and test firing of the arms and ammunition seized from the ship.“They had informed in a letter to FSL director that the examination was transparent and were convinced that no tampering would be done,” sources said. The director had produced the letter before the court, while seeking the court’s opinion.Sources in the Italian delegation in Thiruvananthapuram said that the two Italian experts left as the most important part of the examinations and tests were completed in the previous week and any additional test would not change the perception of the emerging truth.
