MYSORE: Barely a couple of months after an elephant went berserk killing one person in Mysore, two elephants belonging to the JSS Suttur Mutt caused panic among people for three hours on Monday.Fortunately, no one was injured though four people, including a mahout, had a miraculous escape as the elephant charged at them near Hosabandikeri.Lakshmi (12) and Masti (22) were taken for their routine walks from the mutt at the foot of Chamundi Hill. As they neared Chamundipuram Circle, the mahout stopped for tea, asking his assistant to tend to the elephants. But the sirens and lights of a passing ambulance disturbed Lakshmi, which rushed towards people and created panic. However, the mahout and his assistant managed to subdue it.But as they reached Ramanuja Road, Masti began to chase the assistant, who escaped as the elephant was diverted by an autorickshaw that sped past it.Masti tried to attack Ayyappa who climbed a tree. Masti entered Harishchandra Ghat and stayed there for a while. Finally, as Masti followed the mahout when he ran into the mutt, guards locked up the gates. Dasara elephants Gajendra and Abhimanyu were brought in to tether the unruly elephants.
