KOLLAM: The education system prevailing in the state needs to undergo to be revamped to match the changing times, or else the government schools in the state would become centres which produce second class citizens, Labour Minister Shibu Baby John said here on Saturday. He was inaugurating the valedictory function of the golden jubilee celebrations of the Karamala Rani Training College. The Minister pointed out that less than five per cent of students, who undergo school education in Malayalam medium, are enrolled for higher education courses. The standard of education has clearly dropped as even students who get 100 per cent marks in the Higher Secondary examination fail to clear the hurdle of entrance examination for professional courses. The problem here is not with the students but the education system, he said. The minister said that in the background of the state’s educational institutions failing to make it to the list in the surveys of best educational institutions   in the country, claims that the state had made significant advancements in the field of education was ridiculous. Patron of the college and Kollam Bishop Stanley Roman presided over the function.
