THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Peerumedu MLA E S Bijimol will be the LDF candidate for the Deputy Speaker election. A meeting of the CPI state council on Wednesday proposed the name of Bijimol. The Deputy Speaker election will be held during the Assembly session beginning on June 24. The CPI state council asked the State Government to implement Rs 1-kg-rice scheme immediately."The UDF Government is running away when somebody asks about the scheme which was its key election promise. The UDF should also make it clear whether it would continue with the LDF project for giving rice at Rs 2 without APl/BPL division,’’ said a resolution adopted by the state council. The resolution also criticised the Union Government for hiking the petrol price by Rs 5. "Kerala will be affected severely if one more hike is announced,’’ said the resolution. The CPI demanded an inquiry into the controversy regarding the PG medical seats. ‘’There are allegations that the government purposefully lapsed the general merit seats in the PG sector. This is a backdoor arrangement between the government and SFC managements. This had helped the Health Minister and the Education Minister for securing seats for their children,’’ CPI state secretary C K Chandrappan alleged here.
