New Delhi: Delhi continues to live up to its dubious reputation of being the country’s rape capital.
While political parties are going all out to woo the voters for the upcoming MCD polls – using women safety as one of their agendas – incidents of rape and molestation continue unabated.
In the latest incident, news agency PTI reports that two minor girls were allegedly raped by a tailor in a west Delhi locality.
The accused Vikram on Monday lured two five-year-old girls and a boy into his house on the pretext of giving sweets to them and raped two of them, and made an attempt on the third.
Hearing the children’s cry, neighbours rushed to Vikram’s residence but were not let in. Vikram told them that he was beating up the children as he was their tuition teacher.
However, the alarmed neighbours smelt a rat and informed Vikram's sister about the incident. Vikram released the children from his captivity after about two hours.
The father of one of the victims saw the children coming out of Vikram's buildingand noticed blood stains on the girls’ clothes.
Police say the trio was then rushed to Capital’s Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital in serious condition.
Vikram – who was to marry next month – has gone absconding and police say hunt is on.
The two girls underwent surgeries and their condition is stable, senior doctor at the DDU was quoted as saying.
