New Delhi: Jharkhand's Navin Kujur, a student of Delhi's School of Planning and Architecture, has suffered serious injuries after he was allegedly ragged by some of his seniors in the hostel. The seniors allegedly ragged and physically tortured Kujur so severely that he had to undergo surgery.
An FIR was registered only after Navin moved the Jharkhand High Court, which directed the police to take necessary action. Navin has been bed-ridden for the last four month. He had secured admission to the School of Planning and Architecture, but now his dreams lie shattered following the ragging.
According to Navin on September 2 the seniors put bricks on his back and asked him to do push-ups and also hurled abuses at him. They also tortured him physically which led to injuries to his knees. Navin went back to his hometown in Jharkhand without informing his college.
He has been undergoing treatment for the last four months but he is still unable to walk. Doctors say his knee ligaments and knee-caps have been severely damaged.
Navin's father said that he sent a written complaint to the college authorities and the police, but no action was taken against the accused. He them moved the Jharkhand High Court, which sent a notice to the School of Planning and Architecture. The police filed an FIR only after the college lodged complain on December 30, 2012. However, the college is yet to act against the accused senior students.
School of Planning and Architecture Dean Prof Neelima Risbud said that the college has been investigating the matter but till now have not been able to identify the accused students. The college has informed that police who are investigating the incident, she said.
But what is even more surprising is that School Of Planning and Architecture sent a notice to Navin for not attending the classes for four months and even threatened him that he would not be promoted due to short attendance. Navin now wants to get transferred to BIT, Ranchi due to the callous attitude of the college.
