New Delhi: Delhi government on Thursday said that it has granted license to 40 new drug stores to sell Tamiflu tablets for treatment of swine flu in the national capital.

Health Minister Satyendra Jain said that the government will soon open two new labs where tests of swine flu will be carried out so that people don't face problems. At present, tests of viral disease are conducted at three government-run labs across the city.

There has been a sudden rise in cases of swine flu across the county. "We have granted license to 40 new drug stores to sell Tamiflu tables for treatment of swine flu in the national capital," Jain told at a press conference in New Delhi.

He said that apart from the 13 government hospitals, government has also asked 12 private hospitals to double the stock of swine flu medicines and that no patient be turned away.

According to government officials, 1789 swine flue cases have been reported so far and six people have died due to this disease in the city.

"Five deaths have been reported in the month of January while only one death has been reported in February so far. There is no panic like situation and all things are under control," Jain said.

The minister claimed that the cases of swine flu are now decreasing, saying that all government hospitals have appropriate stocks of the medicine.

"Medicines have been brought from Rajasthan three days back. Government is taking all steps to prevent this viral disease from spreading. We are fully prepared to take necessary steps," Jain said.

On being asked about the stock of medicines at private chemists, he said that government only has control over its hospitals and it is also ensuring that private chemists have appropriate stock of medicines.

Deaths due to the H1N1 virus on Wednesday touched 663 across the country while the number of those affected was 10,025 so far this year, much more than past few years.
