In a tragic incident of road rage, a cab driver in Delhi was assaulted, stabbed and shot dead by a group of men in front of a large crowd after his vehicle hit an e-rickshaw accidentally.
Shakib, a cabbie, was dropping off a passenger before heading home to have a late dinner with his wife when he hit an e-rickshaw near Red Fort, The Indian Express reported.
The man found himself in an unwanted situation when three passersby stopped and confronted him over the accident.
Over the next 20 minutes, the 36-year-old man was dragged out of his WagonR, repeatedly assaulted and stabbed, before being shot dead allegedly by those men.
The police said that a huge crowd gathered during the assault but no bystander intervened or called the Police Control Room (PCR) when a crime occurred.
The authorities only received information about the incident after the victim was taken to Lok Nayak Hospital. The suspects are still at large, and their identity remains unknown, according to the police.
“Further investigation revealed that around midnight, a WagonR hit a battery rickshaw near Kodia Pul-Chatta rail crossing and an altercation broke out (between the car driver and the assailants). The driver was dragged out of the vehicle by three persons and assaulted even as people started gathering at the spot. Shakib managed to grab hold of one of the persons, the assailant then pulled out a firearm and shot Shakib and the minor who was present at the spot and is an eyewitness to the incident. Both victims were rushed to the hospital by passersby,” the publication quoted DCP (North) Manoj Kumar Meena as saying.
In another similar incident, a 44-year-old man allegedly shot dead an assistant sub-inspector and then killed himself on Tuesday in the Nand Nagri area of northeast Delhi, police said.
According to police, they received a PCR call around 11.40 am reporting multiple bullet rounds being fired at the Meet Nagar Flyover that killed ASI Dinesh Sharma and injured another person.
