BANGALORE: M Krishnappa, MLA of South Bangalore, inaugurated a number of development works for the betterment of the people of Uttarahalli on Wednesday.The infrastructure facilities such as bus shelter, library and a computer training centre along with tailoring classes for the women were brought into function.Also, a blood donation camp was held in order to educate people about the benefits of donating blood.Forty sewing machines were donated to the women to encourage them to learn the skill of tailoring at the centre. The idea behind this initiative is to keep them motivated and help them find employment. The popular mid day meal facility got a new lease of life in the area as plates were donated to all schools present in the ward. Also, scholarships were awarded to deserving students.The eligibility for the same as 80 per cent for private school students and 70 per cent for government school students. In order to encourage them further, a certificate with their photo and mementos were also presented to all the students who have passed their Secondary School Leaving Certificate and Pre-University College exams Three thousand sarees were presented to the women of the locality as a gesture of good will. Five hundred blankets were also donated for the upliftment of the less fortunate residents of the area. The locality is likely to see many positive changes in the coming years with the introduction of these facilities.Ramesh Raju, the corporator of the area spoke to City Express. He said, “The changes that we have incorporated here will be good for the area as well as the people,” he said.As for the business prospective, he said, “The area will see a lot of profit due to the introduction of the new industries. We are already running the computer education centre in the government schools of the area. The people in the ward are also very co-operative.” Adding to that he mentioned that the government will be providing cloth material for the uniforms for the less fortunate students. These uniforms will be stitched by the Gram Panchayat.The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) bus shelter inaugurated at the Uttarahalli Circle is set to handle majority of the traffic in the ward. Planned years ago, it has finally been put into action. The area, which has recently been shifted to the jurisdiction of the BBMP from the Gram Panchayat, is likely to benefit the new addition. City Express also spoke to the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) official responsible for the area.He said (on the condition of anonymity) “the bus shelter would handle approximately 20 buses and will soon be provided with sitting facilities and a canteen.”
