During the Southwest monsoon, the key Cauvery catchment areas in Karnataka received a total rainfall of 2141 mm as against the normal of 3022 mm, recording of deficit 30 per cent.
The annual rainfall over the catchment varies from 574 mm to 3345 mm. However, since September 17, Kodagu witnessed 75 per cent deficit with 25 mm as against 104 mm till the month end while Hassan witnessed 58 per cent deficit rainfall with 35 mm as against 83 mm.
The total rainfall during the SW monsoon (from June to September) in Kodagu was 1,595 mm as against 2,333 mm and Hassan 546 mm as against 689 mm. A chief engineer of BWSSB on conditions of anonymity told Express, “The water levels of KRS and Kabini reservoirs have seen a dip. We have submitted a proposal to give 15TMC of water per year to the water board to cater to the drinking needs of Bangaloreans.”
