Noida: RTI activist Chandra Mohan Sharma, who was presumed to be dead after a charred body was found in his car, was on Thursday evening arrested by police.

On Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Police had detained Sharma and his lover in Karnataka. According to police, Sharma might have faked his death to spend his life with his lover.

The activist's wife, who had earlier said that the man the police had arrested was not her husband, later admitted to having read some texts from a woman on Sharma's phone. This woman had also gone missing a month after Sharma's alleged death.

The police got suspicious after checking Sharma's phone. "The police told me that they found that a girl was using a phone registered in Chandra Mohan's name after his death," Sharma's wife said.

According to sources, a month after Chandra Mohan's charred body was found, police received a missing complaint about a girl from the same locality. After checking her phone details, they found that she had been in constant touch with Sharma.

Her call details revealed that she had been frequently calling on a phone with the same IMEI number as Chandra Mohan, even after the body was found. After this they dispatched two teams to Karnataka, where the duo was reportedly nabbed.
