PARADIP: A 13-year-old girl was killed and six houses have been destroyed at Rebalipatna village under Kujang police limits in a fire mishap.Children in the village were bursting crackers on Wednesday evening when a cracker fell on the thatched house of one Laxmidhar Beura. As the fire spread, two thatched houses of Beura were gutted and his daughter Monalisa sustained burn injuries. She succumbed to the injuries on Thursday morning. Before the fire could be brought under control, four more houses in the area were gutted. Tirtol fire officer Gopal Charan Moharana said property worth more than ` 1 lakh had been destroyed in the mishap.Sambalpur: As many as 22 makeshift cracker shops near the Gangadhar Meher (Autonomous) College were gutted on Wednesday. The cause of fire could not be ascertained. Several vehicles were also gutted. Thick fumes filled the atmosphere and locals got panicky apprehending the fire may spread to nearby residential areas. Soon after, cops clamped down on cracker shops.
