Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's march with the Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Kolkata knight Riders began on Tuesday with huge crowds at the Eden gardens as well as on the streets.
The victory march began from Hazra in Kolkata on Tuesday with the KKR team led by Gautam Gambhir on an open truck with the IPL cup. The text on the blue and white coloured truck said, "Korechi, Lorechi, Jitechi Re" (We have done it, we have fought it, we have won it)".
Meanwhile, the crowds at the Eden Gardens waited for the team to arrive along with Shah Rukh Khan and Mamata Banerjee. There was music and dancing at the Eden Gardens as the crowds waited. Popular Bengali singer Jojo sang famous Bengali songs and got the crowds shaking their legs.
However, there was some disappointment as team co-owner, Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was not present in the parade. However, he was expected to be at the ceremony in Eden Gardens, where more crowds waited anxiously for the victorious team.
The KKR players will get some gifts from the West Bengal government including blue and white embroidered scarves for each player, gold chain with 'Bengal loves you' inscribed on it and cake sandesh which resembles the team logo.
The newly crowned IPL champions got a hero's welcome in Kolkata, not just from the fans but also from Trinamool Congress (TMC) ministers on Monday.
The team led by Gautam Gambhir and local hero Manoj Tewari was felicitated outside the airport by three state ministers and a Trinamool Congress MP.
Each team member was introduced on the stage to rousing applause from the fans who had gathered there.
