Creativity marks World Veg Day

Creativity marked the World Veg Day Celebrations as more than 300 students including school children and college students participated in various competitions, which acted as a platform to bring out their hidden and inherent talent in the open.

  The celebrations marked the end of the week-long activities that began from the launch of World Veg Council (WVC) and the ‘Ahimsa Walk’ on October 2 at the Marina Beach.

Drawing and painting,  fancy dress, poster-making and a cookery competition for the college students ensured that the day was packed with events. Students from Chinmaya Vidyalaya, DAV Boys School, DAV Girls School, Vivekananda Vidyalaya, Maharishi Vidya Mandir and Valliammal Higher Secondary School among others participated in the competition. Little Mother Teresas, Veerapandia Kattabommans, Mahatma Gandhis and Abdul Kalams scuttled about, looking every inch their idols as they participated in the fancy dress competition.

The competition was aimed at bringing out the idea of vegetarianism and its benefits, said R Shanthi Sarvothaman, chairperson of the World Vegetarian Day Celebrations. “Children need to made aware about the benefits of going green.

The idea behind organising such competitions is to learn about the green world,” she said. The day-long celebrations were inaugurated by chief guest Sudeep Jain, chairman and managing director of Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency and Dilip Chari, Chennai editor, Rajasthan Patrika.
