PUDUCHERRY: Supporters of Communist Party of India (Marxist) held a demonstration here on Thursday asking Lieutenant Governor Iqbal Singh not to address the Territorial Assembly during the Budget Session.Covering their faces with black cloth, they took out a rally demanding that Singh, who is under investigation following various allegations, should not address the Assembly.They also demanded action against Collector G Ragesh Chandra, who was being probed by the CBI for irregularities in the implementation of the Tsunami Rehabilitation Housing Project.The police seized the placards carrying the pictures of Iqbal Singh and Ragesh Chandra from CPM workers at the start of the rally at the old bus stand. Police blocked the protesters near the Immaculate Conception Cathedral church. The CPM workers staged a dharna before dispersing.V Perumal, CPM state unit secretary, and T Murugan, party’s Tamil Nadu State Council member, who addressed the gathering, said there was suspicion in minds of the people following allegations of Lt Governor Iqbal Singh’s involvement in the Hassan Ali case.Alleging that the LG had misused his position to favour his family members and close associates in certain other issues, the CPM leaders said it was not proper for him to address the House as a Constitutional authority.
