THALASSERY: Violence reared its ugly head once again in the sensitive Panur belt as two school students sustained injuries in a country-bomb explosion at Elamcode here on Saturday morning. The school students, Ajnas, 13, and Sinan, 11, who sustained injuries in the explosion were admitted to the Indira Gandhi Hospital, Thalassery. According to hospital sources, the injuries of the students weren’t serious. The incident took place around 9.30 am on Saturday when the two students were returning from the Thiruval Darul Hudra Madrasa. It was an ‘ice-cream bomb’ that exploded a few yards away from the students even as a goods autorickshaw was passing by them. There was a report that country-bombs were thrown at the children by those in the autorickshaw, but this turned out to be a manipulated effort made by interested parties to give a new twist to the story. The students couldn’t make out what actually happened as they were in a state of daze.It was a group of local people, who reached the spot after hearing the sound of explosion, took the injured school children to the Indira Gandhi Hospital. The condition of the students was out of danger, according to hospital sources. There had been several incidents of clashes between NDF and BJP activists in the area. There was also a bomb attack on the house of an SDPI worker on Friday night. The CPM and the RSS workers were also involved in some of the recent clashes in the area. Meanwhile, the bomb explosion that caused injuries to the school students, a few hours before Chief Minister Oommen Chandy was scheduled to address two public functions in Panur spread panic among the local people. The deployment of police force in the area was strengthened following the explosion.
