HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will buy 410 bins and 2,000 tricycles for garbage collection.Besides, it will identify 40 to 50 new points for dumping garbage.A project in re-use of debris at the site is under consideration.More garbage-lifting machines will be hired very soon.This was stated by commissioner MT Krishna Babu at the council meeting held here on Saturday.He said that in response to scathing criticism from MIM corporator Mirza Mustafa Baig on the poor sanitary conditions in the city.Commenting on the ambitious plan for a massive cleaning drive from next month to make the city neat and tidy in view of the prestigious international event, Conference of Parties, in October, Baig said half of the garbage collecting vehicles were not in good condition and had become white elephants to the corporation.“More money is spent on their maintenance than on operation which can be used instead to purchase or hire new vehicles,” he said.He alleged that the corporation had not been able to ensure proper garbage collection for over a year now due to shortage of vehicles.MIM MLC Amin-ul-Hassan Jafri urged the mayor to increase the corporator's budgetary allowance for water, sewerage and sanitation initiatives, which is 20 pc of the Rs 1 crore corporator's fund.Naala widening and improvement of sewerages in peripheral areas should be speeded up, he said
