Colachel Victory celebrated

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The nation should remember the valour of the Travancore forces which defeated the Dutch at Colachel 270 years ago with gratitude, the Colachel Battle Memorial Committee has said. The committee organised a meeting to celebrate the 270th anniversary of the Travancore victory, which fell on August 10 this year, at Colachel. Dr Francis Sunny, who inaugurated the celebrations, said that the Travancore forces had thwarted the Dutch attempt to colonise this part of the sub-continent. John Venetius, who delivered the keynote address, said history has forgotten the brave soldiers who fought the Durch in an amphibious battle. Committee convener Melvin Vinod presided.
