BANGALORE: Claiming that the state’s finances are sound, Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda has promised to bring about a white paper on the economic condition of the state.“The white paper would carry details on loans on the state and proposals for seeking fresh loans if any,” he told the media at a meet jointly organised by the Bangalore Press Club and the Reporters Guild here on Wednesday.He went on to add that tax collection for the first four months of the current fiscal touched Rs 14,358 crore - a growth of over 20 per cent as compared to the corresponding period last year.Expressing confidence of collecting Rs 42,475 crore as taxes during 2011-12, he said that in the last four months, Rs 8,745 crore was collected as commercial tax, Rs 3,195 as excise, Rs 1,501 by way of stamps and registration duties, amounting to 34 per cent of the target fixed for the current fiscal.“This is 20 per cent higher than the amount collected in the previous fiscal,” he said.The CM said that the recent rains claimed 94 peole, 119 livestock and 1,462 houses worth Rs 130.42 crore were damaged.He added that despite copious rain in the state, several pockets in districts are reeling under a dry spell.While claiming that there is no dearth of funds to tackle the drought and flood situations, Gowda informed that Rs 50 crore has been released for relief activities.Referring to the review exercises in various departments and ministers, he said that it had helped gain understanding on the working of various departments and the schemes they are implementing.“I will prioritise the implementation of various state projects,” he said.
