CHENNAI: A prized vintage performance of violin maestro Lalgudi G Jayaraman, the popular series by spiritual discourse expert Velukkudi Krishnan on the 108 divyadesams, and the immortal Bamakalapam performance by Kuchipudi exponent Alekhya Punjala were released as DVDs and audio CDs by the archives division of Prasar Bharathi at an event organised in the city on Wednesday.
At a glittering event held on the All India Radio premises, two audio CDs and three DVDs from AIR and Doordarshan archives were released. These include two CDs of Lalgudi G Jayaraman's 1971 and 1978 performances costing Rs 195 each, and a DVD."Without the signal contribution of AIR, we would not have had any records of our legendary musicians' work," noted danseuse Dr Padma Subramanyam, who spoke at the event, said.

She further requested the government's media wings to set up an audiovisual library with its repository of music, and keep it open for rasikas as well as research students.

The DVD pack of the discourse, titled Kannanin Aaramudhu, comprises 30 DVDs and costs Rs 6,000 while the Bamakalaapam DVD by Alekhya Punjala costs Rs 395.
