KOCHI: With the Kochi city stretching to outer regions and new projects coming in these places, the Kochi City Police too will widen their jurisdiction to outer region sof the city in the coming days. In the recent security meeting held between different security agencies like Navy, Coast Guard and the City Police, it was demanded that police limits should be extended to Puthuvypeen and Chottanikkara. At present, Puthuvypeen area is under the Njarrakal police station which comes under the Ernakulam rural police limits. But with major projects like LNG Terminal and Marine University coming up in this area, the security has to be strengthened. “The LNG terminal is an important project for the entire state. The security system in this area has to be beefed up with constant patrolling in the area. So this area will also come under the city police limits soon. Other security agencies also have demanded that the security of the area has to be handed over to the city police considering a major project like the LNG Terminal. The current plan is to add Puthuvypeen area under the Mulavukkad police station limits. "It will be easier for the people of Puthuvypeen area to reach Mulavukkad police station than Njarakkal,” a senior police official said.Chottanikkara police station will be added to the city police station considering public demands. “At present, Chottanikkara is under the rural police limits. But the people here have been demanding that the station should be included under the city police limits. Now, the people here have to travel to Aluva to register a complaint with the SP or the DySP. It will be helpful for the people of Chottanikkara if the police station is included under the city police limits. The order will be issued within a few days,” police officials said.According to Control Room Assistant Commissioner K S Vijayappan, the security of the whole city would be intensified and the entire police force would be provided with advanced gadgets. “Our vision is to make the police force modernised before 2020. Advanced equipment and vehicles will be used to monitor the entire city round the clock," Vijayappan said.
