THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The City Corporation’s drive to weed out illegal ads from the city has finally resulted in a spat between the Council and the Revenue officials. Deputy Mayor Happykumar is miffed with the Revenue Officer over his handling of the illegal ads issue. The Corporation had decided to check the illegal hoardings and ads coming up in the city by issuing licences. Henceforth, the hoardings and ads would be required to carry a hologram indicating payment of tax or a copy of the application form. All other ads and hoardings failing to exhibit this will be removed. Taking into consideration the huge number of applications submitted before the Corporation, Happykumar had asked for a month’s time. However, the Revenue Officer issued a statement on Saturday showing September 26 as the deadline. The Deputy Mayor slammed the Revenue official for issuing such a statement, as the cut-off date given by him earlier was November 1. Happykumar is also miffed with the Assistant Revenue Officer over his cold response. “As many as six squads led by the Assistant Revenue Officer were formed last month and were entrusted with the task of bringing down the illegal hoardings by August 15. However, only two squads have submitted report so far. The lackadaisical attitude of the Assistant Revenue Officer will be questioned at the Finance Standing Committee,” he said. Happykumar has also decided to raise the issue before the Council and said that he would request for strict action to be taken against the Revenue official.
