CHENNAI: The newly-elected representatives of the Tamil Nadu — Puducherry State level Children’s Parliament met the Speaker of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly, D Jayakumar, on Wednesday.They handed over the resolutions passed over the course of a three-day conference and requested that the Speaker place them in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.Representing the state level ministers was Swarnalatha, the finance minister, a student of Little Flower Convent, Chennai. Nine other district representatives also joined her. The prime minister, Sabari, was unable to attend the meeting as her home town, Cuddalore, was ravaged by cyclone Thane. The children themselves explained their requests and spent over 15 minutes with the Speaker.Jayakumar greatly appreciated the amount of dedication and hardwork the children had put into their posts and said that he would request the State Government to make it a Government programme. He also requested the national convenor of the Children’s Parliament programme, Joseph Rathinam, to meet him shortly to explain how the programme works.
