Raipur: An 18-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and assaulted on Friday in Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. The victim was allegedly abducted from a wedding and was beaten by her assailants till she was unconscious. The girl had stepped out to relieve herself when some persons dragged her to a nearby field and raped her. The assailants then fled from the spot.
The police was alerted after some passers-by spotted her lying in the field after a few hours. The girl is being treated at SIMS hospital in Bilaspur and her condition is stable now.
The police has started a probe and expressed hope that the culprits, yet to be identified, would be nabbed soon.
Meanwhile, opposition Congress said that BJP government had failed to provide security to the women. State Congress chief Bhupesh Baghel announced that the
party would conduct an inquiry into the incident through a committee.
