Centre apprised of steps to stop human safari

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government has apprised the Centre of the steps taken by it to stop the reported ‘human safari’ by tour operators. It has submitted an interim report to the Ministry of Tribal Affairs which sought the Government’s views on media report which highlighted the Bonda tribals. The State Government will submit a full report to the ministry soon in this regard following field visit by a senior officer.Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had directed the Tourism Department to inquire into the existence of human safari in tribal areas of the State and depute a senior official to Malkangiri district on a fact-finding mission.The Tourism Department has, meanwhile, held meetings with tour operators and travel agencies asking them to delete any objectionable material from their websites and brochure.
