Both the Congress-led UPA government and the Union Territory government headed by N Rangasamy were betraying the people of Puducherry on the Cauvery water issue and the FDI, CPI State Secretary R Viswanathan said here on Monday.
He said Union Minister V Narayansamy had blamed Chief Minister Rangsamy for not projecting the exact requirements of Karaikal region in the Cauvery River Authority (CRA) meeting convened recently. The Central government also did not stress the need to implement the Cauvery River Water Tribunal’s award, he said
He said the decision on the FDI in retail sector would affect the country, he said Chief Minister N Ranagsamy had not made his party’s stand clear on the issue and had been silent on the issue. He charged that the silence of the Chief Minister was an act of ‘cheating’ the people.
Viswanathan said the CPI would organise a ‘People Contact Programme’ in all the four regions of the Union Territory on September 27, 28 and 29, to expose the ‘anti-people’ policies of the Central and State governments.
Referring to the Orissa coal block allotment to a private firm by the Puducherry Industrial Promotion Development & Investment Corporation (PIPDIC), he said the former Chief Minister V Vaithilingam should give an explanation regarding this and added that the CPI had raised the issue in the assembly during the previous government’s regime.
Alleging that malpractice had taken place in the disbursal of relief assistance to fishermen in Yanam region during the fishing ban period, he said a huge amount has been siphoned off by producing 3,750 fake names.The CPI leader demanded a probe into the matter.
Viswanathan demanded an enquiry into the allegations of irregularities in the Slum Clearance Board under the housing subsidy scheme which was allegedly availed by government employees. He said some of the Slum Clearance Board employees had also availed the benefits of scheme.
