New Delhi: Goa Governor BV Wangchoo is being questioned as witness by Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with the AgustaWestland hulti crore helicopter scam.

Wangchoo was serving as chief of the Special Protection Group at the time of the deal. He is believed to have been involved in the meeting were the height ceiling for the chopper was lowered from 6000 to 4500 feet. It is alleged that the specifications of the 12 helicopters were changed to ensure AgustaWestland became the only firm that qualified.

CBI had earlier claimed that the technical amendments were made to defeat its competitor Sikorsky and grab the deal.

Last week, the CBI questioned the former West Bengal MK Narayanan Governor as a witness in the AgustaWestland chopper scam probe. Narayanan was the National Security Advisor at time of the chopper deal. He had presided over a meeting which made changes to technical specifications for VVIP choppers.

These changes enabled Agusta to enter the eligibility criteria so deal could be worked out. The CBI wants to get more details on the reasons behind making those changes. The CBI had said it wanted to record the statements of Narayanan, who was the then National Security Adviser, and Goa Governor BV Wanchoo.

The deal in which allegations of Rs 360-crore bribe were levelled has been scrapped by the government in 2013.
