BANGALORE: The implementation of the Bus Priority System (BPS) which was due to start from February 15, according to officials, has been delayed yet again due to what they have claimed as ‘final stage fine tuning’. A brainchild of Centre for Infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CISTUP) and Praja.in, the BPS is an alternative to Bus Rapid Transport System (BRTS), which was scheduled to start between KBS and ASC College in Domlur from Wednesday. The pilot project would earmark a special lane of 15 feet for buses and emergency vehicles. Also, priority would be accorded to buses at signal junctions. “We are in the process of finalising the project. A meeting will be held on Thursday to work out the details, and the project will start in the couple of weeks,” said K R Srinivas, BMTC MD. However, people connected with the project allege that the groundwork studies undertaken by the BMTC is insufficient and might delay the implementation. “Signal timings need to be adjusted to accommodate BPS and lanes must be demarcated on basis of topography. This has not been done to the best of my knowledge,” said a member of Praja.in
